Philadelphia guard Tyrese Maxey said Monday he would “love to play for Team USA” if invited, one day after being announced as an All-Star starter for the first time. The 25-year-old is averaging career highs of 30.3 points, 6.7 assists, 4.4 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.0 block while logging an NBA-leading 39.3 minutes per game.
Milton to undergo hand surgery
Former NBA guard Shake Milton, now with Partizan Belgrade, has returned to the United States to repair a broken bone in his left hand, Meridian Sport reported. The 29-year-old is expected to be sidelined about three months. Milton’s first season in Europe has been labeled disappointing by Serbian media.
Joseph waiting on Monaco debut
Veteran point guard Cory Joseph, who joined AS Monaco in early December after 14 NBA seasons, has yet to take the floor. Monaco is currently under a transfer ban tied to unresolved financial obligations, according to Eurohoops. Greek club Aris Thessaloniki has shown interest in the 34-year-old, but no agreement has been reached.
EuroLeague chief unmoved by NBA plan
EuroLeague CEO Paulius Motiejunas expressed little concern over the NBA’s exploratory talks about launching a European competition. “Having a theory is one thing and making it work is two,” he told the Associated Press, noting the EuroLeague’s 26-year track record. Motiejunas said he expects shareholder clubs Real Madrid, Fenerbahce and ASVEL to renew their licenses despite lingering negotiations. He added that NBA announcements about the project have yielded “nothing that you can grasp on” as the proposed 2027 start date approaches.
