The NBA’s board of governors is scheduled to vote this week on whether to begin formal discussions about adding expansion franchises in Las Vegas and Seattle.
Writers Mike Vorkunov, Jesse Granger, Vic Tafur, Sabreena Merchant and Oskar Garcia of The Athletic reviewed Las Vegas’ prospects. Despite the city’s modest media size, the group generally agreed it could support a team. Tafur cautioned, however, that a new club would need to contend quickly, noting that Las Vegas fans have a limited attention span for prolonged rebuilding.
Free-Agent Watch
Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron examined 10 players heading toward free agency this summer, spotlighting four Lakers—Austin Reaves, LeBron James, Luke Kennard and Marcus Smart—and two Pistons, Tobias Harris and Daniss Jenkins. Gozlan wrote that Reaves, 27, has positioned himself for a substantial raise and could attract a two- or three-year maximum offer from another team. Even so, Gozlan projected Reaves would remain with Los Angeles for the 2026/27 season.
WNBA Nears New Labor Deal
The WNBA and the WNBPA have reached a tentative agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement, the NBA announced. The proposed deal would deliver significant pay increases across the league, among other provisions.
Misery Index Update
Zach Harper of The Athletic released his latest NBA Misery Index, ranking the Bucks first, the Kings second and the Pelicans third. Harper cited Milwaukee’s disappointing season and lack of promising young talent as primary reasons for topping the list.
