Warriors Remain Open to Anthony Davis Trade, but Butler and Green Off Limits

The Golden State Warriors have not entirely dismissed the idea of trading for Dallas Mavericks All-Star Anthony Davis, according to a report by Sam Amick of The Athletic published on December 31, 2025. Team insiders told Amick that while the front office has explored scenarios, the club will not consider parting with Jimmy Butler or Draymond Green in any deal.

Trading for Davis—who is earning more than $54 million this season—would be a financial challenge for Golden State, which is operating near the NBA’s second tax apron. League sources said Dallas has interest in 23-year-old forward Jonathan Kuminga, but his $22.5 million salary is far below what would be needed to match Davis’ contract, making a one-for-one swap virtually impossible without additional outgoing salary.

Amick reported that the Mavericks, not the Warriors, initiated the recent conversations about Davis, indicating Golden State was not actively shopping for a path to finalize a trade.

Hawks Guard Risacher, Gauge Trae Young Market

In Atlanta, rumors linking Davis to the Hawks have hit resistance inside the organization. Team sources insisted they will not include 2024 No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher in any proposal for the veteran big man. Dallas is seeking young talent and expiring contracts, but Hawks officials remain committed to Risacher after a strong second half of the 2024-25 season, Amick noted.

The Hawks are reportedly more willing than ever to discuss a trade centered on Trae Young, yet interest across the league appears muted. One rival scout told Amick that Young is “an extremely difficult player to win at the highest level with,” suggesting Atlanta may need to wait until the offseason to resolve the situation.

Bucks Add Porter Jr. to Wish List

Milwaukee continues to monitor scoring options and has joined the list of teams eyeing Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr., league sources said. The Bucks had previously been tied to Jerami Grant, Zach LaVine and Malik Monk as they search for additional firepower.

Clippers Seek Help, Not a Fire Sale

Despite a sluggish start, the Los Angeles Clippers have no intention of unloading veterans. Instead, they prefer to acquire another impact player to support James Harden and Kawhi Leonard. Winners of five straight games, the Clippers also aim to keep salary-cap flexibility for the summer of 2027 and are reluctant to accept contracts that run beyond that window.
