Amazon Prime Video has green-lit “Rise & Fall,” a multi-episode documentary series on the American Basketball Association (ABA) slated to debut in February 2026, the company confirmed.

The project will launch during Prime Video’s inaugural season as an official NBA media rights partner and is being produced by Prime Video Sports in collaboration with George Karl’s Truth+ Media, Todd Lieberman’s Hidden Pictures, and Kenan Kamwana Holley’s Holley Films.

Running from 1967 until merging with the NBA in 1976, the ABA introduced a faster style of play and popularized the three-point line. Four of its franchises—the New York (now Brooklyn) Nets, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, and San Antonio Spurs—remain fixtures in the NBA. Legends such as Julius Erving, Moses Malone, Spencer Haywood, George Gervin, and Rick Barry all starred in the league.

Hall of Famer George Karl, who played in the ABA before coaching in the NBA for 27 seasons, is serving as an executive producer. The series promises never-before-seen footage and narratives highlighting how the ABA expanded professional basketball into markets, particularly in the Southeast, that the NBA had not yet reached.

The announcement follows the NBA and NBPA’s recent introduction of a $24 million lifetime health and benefit fund for former ABA players, underscoring the league’s lasting impact on the modern game.
