Ajay Mitchell Cleared to Rejoin Thunder After 20-Game Layoff

The Oklahoma City Thunder will have guard Ajay Mitchell back in uniform Monday night when the defending champions host the Denver Nuggets.

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that Mitchell is no longer listed on the injury report after sitting out the past 20 games with an abdominal strain and a sprained ankle. The 2024 second-round pick last played on Jan. 21.

Before the injuries, the 22-year-old had carved out a steady rotation role. Across 43 appearances, including nine starts, he averaged 14.1 points, 3.7 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 26.3 minutes. He shot 48.7 percent from the field and 35 percent from three-point range.

Oklahoma City already features considerable backcourt depth with Cason Wallace, Isaiah Joe, Alex Caruso and trade-deadline addition Jared McCain. With that group in place, Mitchell’s minutes are expected to be reduced compared with his workload earlier in the season, when he filled in behind All-NBA guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

The Thunder’s injury report for Monday remains lengthy. Center Isaiah Hartenstein (calf) will miss a second straight game, and forward Jalen Williams (hamstring) is still out. Caruso (hip) and rookie center Chet Holmgren (flu) are listed as questionable.

Tipoff against Denver is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Paycom Center.
