Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon said he is “fired up” about the team’s summer overhaul, telling ESPN’s NBA Today that the new roster pieces give the defending Western Conference semifinalists “a squad.”

Speaking with host Malika Andrews, the 30-year-old highlighted several moves by Denver’s restructured front office:

  • Trading Michael Porter Jr. to the Brooklyn Nets for forward Cameron Johnson.
  • Acquiring center Jonas Valančiūnas from the Sacramento Kings to solidify the backup five spot.
  • Signing free-agent guard/forward Tim Hardaway Jr. to bolster perimeter shooting.

“That’s a squad, especially with Big Val too,” Gordon said. “Big Val is gonna hold that down. That’s a boy. We got a squad.”

Brown’s Return Draws Biggest Cheers

The forward saved his strongest praise for guard Bruce Brown, a key member of Denver’s 2023 championship run who re-signed in free agency. “Brucey B is back,” Gordon grinned. “Uh-oh. Might be problems for y’all, Brucey B is back.”

Healthy and Ready

Gordon averaged 14.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists over 51 games last season but was limited late in the playoffs by a hamstring issue. He told Andrews he is fully recovered and eager to continue playing alongside two-time MVP Nikola Jokić.

“It’s amazing to get to play around one of the best players, if not the best player of all time,” Gordon said. “It’s the gravity that Joker has. I think we have a great understanding of each other on and off the basketball floor. You guys are gonna see that flourish.”

Denver was eliminated by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals last spring. With Brown back, Valančiūnas anchoring the reserve frontcourt and Jokić still at the center of the offense, the Nuggets are banking on a deeper playoff push in 2025.
