The Philadelphia 76ers are considering trade scenarios for veterans Andre Drummond and Kelly Oubre Jr., according to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer.
Fischer noted that offseason conversations have centered on moving one or both players to free up salary space. Dealing either contract could give Philadelphia greater flexibility to re-sign restricted free agent Quentin Grimes.
Contract Figures
• Drummond: $5 million, final season of his deal
• Oubre: $8.4 million, final season of his deal
• Grimes qualifying offer: $8.7 million, decision deadline Oct. 1
Grimes, acquired from Dallas in February, averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 28 games with Philadelphia, shooting 46.9 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from three-point range. Accepting his qualifying offer would make the 25-year-old guard an unrestricted free agent next summer.
The 76ers finished last season 24-58 and struggled with injuries; Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey shared the court only 15 times, going 7-8 in those games. Front-office decisions on Drummond and Oubre will influence whether the club maintains its current veteran core or shifts resources toward its younger backcourt piece in Grimes.
