NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson was cleared to play Wednesday night against the Denver Nuggets, ending an eight-game absence caused by a Grade 1 strain in his left hamstring.

Williamson, injured on Nov. 4, returns to a team that dropped six straight games during his time on the sideline. The Pelicans dismissed head coach Willie Green on Saturday after a 2-10 start.

Before the setback, the 25-year-old All-Star was averaging 22.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.0 steals per contest this season.

New Orleans also welcomed forward Saddiq Bey, who had been out with a left ankle sprain. Guard Jordan Poole (left quad strain) missed his eighth consecutive game, while point guard Dejounte Murray continues to rehab a ruptured right Achilles.
