The New Orleans Pelicans have ruled forward Zion Williamson out of Monday night’s game against the Boston Celtics because of a bone contusion in his left foot, head coach Willie Green announced shortly before tipoff at Smoothie King Center.

Williamson, 25, did not appear on the initial injury report but was added later with a “questionable” designation. Green confirmed the change in status during his pregame availability.

The two-time All-Star is averaging 27.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 4.0 steals through New Orleans’ first two games, both losses to the Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs. On Friday, he logged 27 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals in 37 minutes during an overtime defeat to San Antonio.

Now in his sixth NBA season, Williamson has reached 61 games played only twice. Last season, he appeared in 30 contests before the team shut him down in March with a bone contusion in his back.
