Memphis, Tenn. — The Memphis Grizzlies will be without center Zach Edey for a minimum of four weeks after the rookie re-injured a previous ailment during the team’s latest outing, the organization announced Thursday.
Edey exited Wednesday night’s game early and did not return. Subsequent medical evaluations confirmed he had suffered a recurrence of the same issue that had already forced him to miss time earlier this season, according to the club.
The Grizzlies did not specify the exact nature of the injury but said the 7-foot-4 center will begin treatment immediately and be re-evaluated in approximately one month. Additional updates will be provided “as appropriate,” the team noted.
This is the second setback for Edey this season involving the same injury. The 23-year-old had recently worked his way back into the rotation before the latest incident.
The Grizzlies, who are already dealing with several roster absences, will now look to cover the front-court void as they navigate a demanding December schedule.
