Roster Speed Hindering Knicks’ Shift to Mike Brown’s Up-Tempo System

NEW YORK — The New York Knicks have not been able to fully embrace head coach Mike Brown’s fast-paced style of play, information released on Oct. 30 2025 indicates, largely because the roster is built around players whose strengths suit a slower tempo.
Brown’s strategy hinges on quick transitions, relentless ball movement and aggressive defensive pressure. Many of the Knicks’ current contributors, however, excel in deliberate half-court sets, making it difficult to sustain the pace he prefers over 48 minutes.
Until the roster better aligns with Brown’s philosophy, the club is expected to employ a hybrid approach that blends his up-tempo concepts with a more methodical style tailored to its existing personnel.
