SAN ANTONIO — Victor Wembanyama delivered 41 points and 16 rebounds Monday night, reaching a double-double in just 8 minutes, 31 seconds to propel the San Antonio Spurs past the Chicago Bulls 129-114.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the rookie’s early burst marked the third-quickest double-double in the play-by-play era (since 1997-98), trailing only Boban Marjanović’s 8:13 in 2017 and Jonas Valančiūnas’ 8:08 in 2025. Wembanyama secured his 10th rebound 1:55 into the second quarter.

Season highs across the board

The 7-foot-4 center went 17-for-27 from the floor, 3-for-6 beyond the arc and attempted a season-best 27 shots. His one-handed driving dunk midway through the fourth quarter capped his 14th 30-point game of the season and helped San Antonio extend its winning streak to nine.

“I felt I needed my offense to get back to a certain level, but that shouldn’t come at the cost of defense,” Wembanyama said.

Chemistry with Castle

Second-year guard Stephon Castle added 21 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. Wembanyama credited their growing connection on lob plays, noting, “He’s actively trying to get the best shot for the team, and I’m making sure every time he throws it up high enough.”

Bulls drop fourth straight

Tre Jones scored 23 points in his first return to San Antonio since the trade that sent De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs. Leonard Miller had 21 points and Collin Sexton finished with 20 for Chicago, which has lost four in a row.

The Bulls played shortly after waiving guard Jaden Ivey for “conduct detrimental to the team.” Ivey, who is injured, did not join the club on its four-game trip.

Chicago opened with a 5-2 lead on a Matas Buzelis dunk, prompting Spurs coach Mitch Johnson to call timeout 71 seconds into the game. San Antonio answered with a 20-13 surge and eventually led by as many as 29 in the third quarter.

The Spurs improved to 9-0 during their current run, with six players finishing in double figures.
