San Antonio Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama offered encouraging news after hyperextending his knee during the team’s matchup with the New York Knicks on Jan. 1.
The Spurs initially feared a serious setback when Wembanyama appeared to injure his knee against New York. Postgame, however, the 7-foot-4 rookie said he was “fine” and sounded confident he would avoid any significant time away from the court.
“It felt scary in the moment, but I’m optimistic,” Wembanyama said, noting that early evaluations did not reveal major damage.
The club has not announced an official timetable, but Wembanyama’s upbeat assessment suggests the Spurs may have dodged a major blow to their season.
