San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama and forward Keldon Johnson arrived at Thursday’s shootaround with clean-shaven heads, two days after a 119-98 defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Johnson said the idea started a week earlier when he shaved the heads of several friends. He later messaged the team’s group chat, announcing he planned to buzz his own hair. “Nobody believed me,” he recalled.

Following Tuesday’s game in Oklahoma City, Wembanyama told Johnson he would join in. Once the team landed in San Antonio on Wednesday, the pair borrowed clippers from an assistant coach and completed the trims in a team van. Johnson hesitated to go first, worried others might back out if he did. Wembanyama trimmed part of his own hair to break the ice before finishing Johnson’s cut, and Johnson then completed Wembanyama’s shave.

The rookie center is no stranger to a buzz cut; he sported a similar look during a 2025 offseason visit to a Shaolin temple in Zhengzhou, China. For Johnson, now in his seventh NBA season, the bald look is new. He joked that his head felt cold until he began running and started to sweat, adding that he is “trying to get everybody I can to go bald.”

The Spurs face the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night. Strong performances from Wembanyama and Johnson could persuade more teammates to pick up the clippers.
