Golden State Warriors forward Jimmy Butler had successful surgery Monday morning in Los Angeles to repair a torn right ACL, the team announced.

The procedure was performed by orthopedic specialist Dr. Bert Mandelbaum, with several members of the Warriors organization in attendance. Butler, 36, will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season, and the club said his recovery status will not be updated until “early next season,” suggesting a mid-2026-27 return at the earliest.

Butler sustained the injury on Jan. 19 during a victory over the Miami Heat. The six-time All-Star joined Golden State almost exactly one year ago in a midseason trade deadline deal with Miami, helping the Warriors finish 23-8 down the stretch and reach the second round of last year’s playoffs.

Before the injury, Golden State had won 12 of its last 16 games with Butler in the lineup, fueling optimism for another postseason push. Head coach Steve Kerr recently acknowledged that Butler’s absence lowers the team’s ceiling.

The veteran has one year remaining on his contract, worth $56.8 million. General manager Mike Dunleavy said he does not “envision” trading Butler and expects the forward to rejoin the roster next season. “I think he’s got a style of game that can play for a long time with his skill, his physicality, his mind for the game,” Dunleavy said. “So my vision for him is him returning at some point between now and this time next year.”
