SAN FRANCISCO — The Golden State Warriors ruled out center Kristaps Porzingis for Sunday’s matchup with the Denver Nuggets after the veteran developed what the team called a “general illness.” Head coach Steve Kerr said the 7-foot-3 big man was feeling too sick to report to Chase Center.
“He’s not even going to come over to the arena,” Kerr told reporters before tipoff. “He’s pretty sick.”
Sunday would have marked Porzingis’ second appearance with Golden State. The Warriors obtained the 30-year-old from the Atlanta Hawks in an early-February trade and debuted him Thursday in a loss to the Boston Celtics. Porzingis posted 12 points in 17 minutes that night and indicated he was prepared for an expanded role. He practiced on both Friday and Saturday, and Kerr had planned to increase his minutes against Denver.
The Latvian star has been limited to 18 games this season while managing Achilles tendinitis and lingering effects of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, an autonomic nervous system disorder.
Golden State begins a two-game road swing Tuesday in Memphis before visiting New Orleans on Wednesday. Kerr said Porzingis’ status for those contests remains uncertain.
