Vanderbilt’s Face Poke at Spurs Forward Triggers Post-Game Tension After Lakers Loss

Los Angeles Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt caused a brief but heated confrontation on Jan. 8 when he poked San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan in the face immediately after the final buzzer of the Lakers’ loss to the Spurs.

Television cameras captured Vanderbilt extending his hand toward Sochan and making contact with the Spurs player’s face. The gesture prompted players from both teams to rush toward the pair, and officials stepped in quickly to prevent the incident from escalating into a full altercation.

Vanderbilt was escorted away by teammates and coaching staff, while Sochan was led in the opposite direction by Spurs personnel. No punches were thrown and no injuries were reported.

As of early Jan. 9, the NBA had not announced whether Vanderbilt would face disciplinary action for the post-game incident.
