The Washington Wizards reported Thursday that newly acquired guard Trae Young has progressed in his rehabilitation program and could take the next step toward playing, while forward Anthony Davis is not yet cleared to practice.
Young, 27, last appeared in an NBA game on Dec. 27. According to the team, he will “ramp up” on-court work as he continues to recover from an MCL sprain and a thigh contusion, with another medical evaluation scheduled for next week.
The three-time All-Star arrived in Washington via a January trade with the Atlanta Hawks. Earlier this month, general manager Will Dawkins said Young had already taken part in one-on-none and two-on-two drills.
Davis, 32, was obtained from the Dallas Mavericks earlier this month and has not played since Jan. 8. The eight-time All-Star spent the All-Star break rehabbing a hand ligament injury in Dallas and then visited hand specialist Steven Shin in Los Angeles before joining the Wizards’ medical staff in Washington. He will be re-evaluated in two weeks, the club said.
“You just follow the process,” head coach Brian Keefe told reporters. “That’s what we always do.”
The pair of trades brought a combined 14 All-Star selections to Washington, but the Wizards have yet to field either player in a game.
