Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen and the club’s vice president of performance health care, Erik Phillips, recreated the “Wet Bandits” look from the “Home Alone” film series as they arrived for Tuesday night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Markkanen, who is averaging a career-best 27.8 points per game, took on the role of the lanky burglar Marv Murchins, portrayed on-screen by Daniel Stern. Phillips dressed as Marv’s partner, Harry Lyme, originally played by Joe Pesci. Both wore costumes that matched the characters’ signature coats, hats and scarves while they walked into Delta Center in Salt Lake City.
The fictional duo earned the nickname “Wet Bandits” in the 1990 holiday classic after Marv left household faucets running at each robbery scene. In the 1992 sequel “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” the thieves rebranded themselves as the “Sticky Bandits” when Marv covered his hand in double-sided tape to snag loose change.
The Jazz tipoff took place four days before Christmas, adding a seasonal twist to the team’s pregame tunnel walk.
