Veteran forward Taj Gibson has reached a two-year agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies, agent Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Thursday.

The deal returns Gibson to the NBA for a 17th season. Now 40, he would become the 35th player in league history to appear in a game after turning 40, according to ESPN Research.

Gibson spent last season with the Charlotte Hornets, appearing in 37 games and averaging 2.9 points and 3.2 rebounds. Since entering the league as the No. 26 pick in the 2009 draft, he has averaged 8.4 points and 5.7 rebounds while playing for the Chicago Bulls, Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons and Hornets.

Teams have consistently praised Gibson’s leadership and professionalism during his career.

Anderson finalizes buyout

In a separate move, forward Kyle Anderson has agreed to a contract buyout with Memphis and plans to sign with the Minnesota Timberwolves after clearing waivers, sources told ESPN. Anderson, represented by agent Thad Foucher, previously spent the 2022-24 seasons with Minnesota.

The buyout was completed Thursday following discussions between Foucher and Grizzlies officials.
