The Phoenix Suns have waived guard Cole Anthony just three weeks after acquiring him at the NBA trade deadline, league sources told ESPN on Friday.
Anthony, 25, arrived in Phoenix on Feb. 7 as part of a three-team trade with the Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls. Selected 15th overall in the 2020 draft, the sixth-year guard averaged 6.7 points across 35 appearances for Milwaukee before the move. He did not log any minutes for the Suns prior to Friday’s roster decision.
The former North Carolina standout was also involved in a major transaction last June that sent Desmond Bane from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Orlando Magic. In that deal, the Magic received Bane while Memphis obtained Anthony, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, four unprotected first-round picks and a first-round pick swap.
During his five seasons with Orlando, Anthony posted career averages of 12.5 points, 4.3 assists and 3.8 rebounds.
The Suns now have an open roster spot as they continue their push toward the postseason.
