OKLAHOMA CITY — Phoenix Suns guard Grayson Allen was thrown out of Wednesday night’s NBA Cup quarterfinal after a hard shove that sent Oklahoma City Thunder center Chet Holmgren to the floor.
The incident occurred with 5:18 remaining in the third quarter and the Thunder ahead 94-58. As Holmgren appeared to set a screen, Allen extended both arms and knocked the 7-foot rookie to the court. Players from both teams converged near the scene before officials separated them.
After video review, referees assessed Allen a flagrant 2 foul, resulting in an automatic ejection and a loud ovation from the Paycom Center crowd. The Suns guard exited with 10 points on 3-for-9 shooting.
Oklahoma City maintained control the rest of the way and cruised to a 138-89 victory.
