Free-agent forward Haywood Highsmith has reached a multiyear agreement with the Phoenix Suns, his agent Jerry Dianis told ESPN on Saturday.
According to sources, the 29-year-old weighed offers from several playoff contenders before committing to Phoenix. Highsmith became available after the Brooklyn Nets, who had obtained him from the Miami Heat last offseason, waived him at this month’s trade deadline.
Highsmith has not appeared in a game this season while finishing rehabilitation on the knee surgery he underwent during the summer. Recognized for his defensive tenacity and two-way versatility when healthy, he joins a Suns roster that sits at 32-23 entering the All-Star break, 1.5 games behind the Western Conference’s No. 5 seed.
