WASHINGTON — Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr collected his 600th regular-season victory on Monday night as the Warriors defeated the Washington Wizards 125-117.

Kerr hit the milestone in his 943rd game, making him the fourth-quickest coach in NBA history to reach 600 wins. Only Phil Jackson (805 games), Pat Riley (832) and Gregg Popovich (887) needed fewer.

“It’s surreal to hear my name in that group, but one thing that bonds us all together is talent,” Kerr said. “You can’t win in this league without great players, and I was blessed from the day I took this job with incredible talent.”

The victory halted a five-game Warriors skid that began after Kerr’s 599th win. Golden State played without injured guards Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler III but welcomed back Draymond Green and Kristaps Porzingis, who had sat out Sunday in New York.

Porzingis led all scorers with 30 points, matching his season high. “He’s quite a talent,” Kerr noted. “We’re also on the Kristaps Porzingis reunion tour. It’s kind of crazy. We’re playing every one of his former teams on this trip.”

Kerr, who logged 601 regular-season wins as an NBA player, is the second person to record at least 600 victories both on the court and on the bench, joining Don Nelson.

Golden State remains in a crowded Western Conference play-in race and will visit the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night.
