New York — The uniform Stephen Curry wore while sealing the 2022 NBA title for the Golden State Warriors has changed hands in a private deal for $2.45 million, setting a new high mark for any Curry game-worn item.
Barry Meisel, president and chief operating officer of the MeiGray Group, confirmed the transaction on Thursday. MeiGray photo-matched the jersey to Game 6 of the 2022 NBA Finals — Curry’s fourth championship and only Finals MVP performance — and originally brokered its sale for $1.7 million roughly three and a half years ago.
The latest price eclipses the previous record for a Curry jersey, the $1.758 million paid at Sotheby’s last summer for the uniform he wore in his second NBA appearance, when he scored his first career three-pointer.
According to Meisel, soaring demand has pushed top-tier sports memorabilia to multiples of their earlier values. “Over the past 12 to 18 months, premium items have been moving at levels we haven’t seen before, and many parties prefer to complete these deals out of the spotlight,” he said.
The buyer, represented by Curio Advisors, has chosen to remain anonymous.
MeiGray, which has authentication agreements with the Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and six NHL clubs, regularly handles high-profile items. Meisel noted that his company recently authenticated the sweater Alex Ovechkin wore while passing Wayne Gretzky’s career goals record, an artifact the Washington Capitals star plans to display in a future museum in Russia.
