Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry earned filmmaking honors Tuesday night when “The Baddest Speechwriter of All,” the short he co-directed with Canadian filmmaker Ben Proudfoot, won the Short Film Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

“Stephen and I are jumping for joy [him a lot higher than I] with this extraordinary recognition,” Proudfoot said, according to Deadline.

The documentary, produced by Proudfoot’s Breakwater Studios and Curry’s Unanimous Media, centers on Clarence B. Jones, the lawyer and adviser who helped craft speeches for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Jones recounts his role in the Civil Rights Movement and reflects on writing words that changed history.

Curry and Proudfoot previously collaborated on “The Queen of Basketball,” the 2022 Oscar-winning short about Lusia Harris, the first woman officially drafted by an NBA team. Curry and Shaquille O’Neal served as executive producers on that project, while Proudfoot directed.

Curry did not attend the Sundance ceremony. Deadline reported that he and Proudfoot plan to mark the achievement after the Warriors face the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night. The two-time NBA MVP is averaging 27.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists this season.
