Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry will remain out for a minimum of five additional games because of lingering pain in his right knee, the team said Sunday.

The 37-year-old will be re-evaluated in 10 days, ruling him out of contests against the Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Utah Jazz and Chicago Bulls. He has already sat out the Warriors’ last 10 games, during which the club has gone 4-6.

The injury is classified as patellofemoral pain syndrome, commonly called “runner’s knee,” and is characterized by swelling and discomfort around the kneecap.

“This is a weird one. It’s kind of unpredictable how it’ll heal,” Curry told ESPN’s Malika Andrews during Saturday’s broadcast.

Golden State initially expected its star to return immediately after the All-Star break, but a setback during a workout that weekend caused the veteran to shut down on-court activities. Team medical staff halted all court work for 10 days; Curry was later seen doing weight-bearing squats on the affected leg before Saturday’s game.

“Right now it’s about stacking good days,” Curry said. “Hopefully they can unleash me on the court soon and get back sooner rather than later.”

The Warriors fell to 31-29 with Saturday’s defeat, holding the Western Conference’s eighth seed and positioning for the Play-In Tournament. Curry has privately emphasized his desire to return in time to help secure a full playoff berth, but medical clearance is still pending.

Golden State’s roster is already depleted. Forward Jimmy Butler tore his ACL in January and is out for the season, while trade-deadline addition Kristaps Porzingis has missed four straight games with an illness and has logged only 17 minutes since arriving.
