STANFORD, Calif. — Stanford’s standout freshman guard Ebuka Okorie announced Thursday, April 9, 2026, that he will declare for the NBA draft after a record-setting lone season with the Cardinal.
Okorie revealed his decision on social media, thanking head coach Kyle Smith and the staff for “taking a chance on a kid from New Hampshire with zero high-major offers.”
Immediate Impact
The 6-foot-4 guard burst onto the college scene with 26 points in his debut against Portland State, later pouring in a Stanford freshman–record 36 points in an upset of North Carolina and 40 points in a home victory over Georgia Tech. His eight games of at least 30 points surpassed the ACC freshman mark previously held by Duke’s Marvin Bagley III.
Season Numbers
Okorie led the ACC with 23.2 points per game, ranking eighth nationally and trailing only fellow freshmen AJ Dybantsa of BYU and Darius Acuff Jr. of Arkansas among projected lottery selections. He also averaged 3.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.6 steals, becoming the first Division I player since 2018-19 (Ja Morant and Jermaine Marrow) to reach those per-game thresholds in all four categories.
The New Hampshire native totaled 719 points, the third-highest single-season figure in Stanford history behind Adam Keefe’s 734 in 1991-92 and Chasson Randle’s 724 in 2014-15. During his final 12 contests, he connected on 46.9% of his three-point attempts, bolstering projections that place him late in the first round of June’s draft.
Awards
Okorie earned first-team All-ACC honors and received honorable-mention recognition on the Associated Press All-America list.
The freshman will now focus on pre-draft workouts and evaluations as he attempts to become Stanford’s first first-round selection since 2018.
