LOS ANGELES — San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle left Tuesday night’s road game against the Los Angeles Lakers after suffering a pelvic contusion in the second quarter, the team said.

The Spurs reported that X-rays were negative, but the reigning Rookie of the Year was ruled out for the rest of the contest at halftime. San Antonio held a 29-point advantage when the decision was announced.

Castle was hurt when he landed on his back following a chase-down block of Rui Hachimura’s transition dunk attempt. Play stopped with 4:10 remaining before intermission as teammates gathered around and athletic trainers examined him on the baseline. After a few minutes, he walked to the locker room under his own power, moving gingerly.

Entering the matchup, the 21-year-old guard was averaging 17.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game in his second NBA season.
