San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama will not play in Wednesday night’s NBA Cup quarterfinal against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Spurs announced.

The 7-foot-4 center remains out with a left calf strain suffered during a Nov. 14 loss to the Golden State Warriors. Since the injury, San Antonio has won eight of the 11 games he has missed, including two NBA Cup group contests that secured the club’s spot in the knockout round.

Now in his third season, Wembanyama is producing career-best averages of 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists while leading the league with 3.6 blocks per game. Under the NBA’s new award eligibility rules, he can sit out only five additional games this season and still reach the 65-game minimum required for postseason honors.

The Spurs and Lakers will meet Wednesday at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.
