The San Antonio Spurs ruled out star center Victor Wembanyama on Thursday night due to right ankle soreness, shelving him shortly before a home game against the Denver Nuggets.
The decision was announced about 45 minutes before the scheduled tipoff on March 12, 2026, removing the 7-foot-4 rookie from a Western Conference clash that also features two-time MVP Nikola Jokić.
Wembanyama had been listed as questionable on the league’s injury report. After testing the ankle during pregame warm-ups, the Spurs medical staff and head coach Mitch Johnson elected to keep him out of the lineup.
“We’ll be mindful of all of it,” Johnson told reporters. “Fortunately, I think regardless, this is something we view as very short term. It’s very much how he’s feeling versus risk of bigger picture.”
The Spurs entered the night among the conference’s top teams, while the Nuggets arrived in San Antonio seeking a statement road win.
