Trae Young will stay off the court until he is re-evaluated following the NBA’s mid-February All-Star break as he continues to recover from injuries to the MCL and quad in his right leg, according to sources familiar with the situation.

The 27-year-old guard, acquired Wednesday in a trade that sent CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert to the Atlanta Hawks, has appeared in only 10 games this season. He is averaging 19.3 points, 8.9 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 28 minutes per night while shooting 41.5% from the field and 30.5% from beyond the arc.

An All-NBA selection in 2021-22, Young owns career marks of 25.2 points and 9.8 assists per game. He paced the league last season with 11.6 assists and has recorded seasons of at least 25 points and 10 assists twice (2022-23 and 2023-24), matching Russell Westbrook for the second-most in NBA history behind Oscar Robertson’s five. Young’s 48.1 points created per game through scoring or assists rank second all-time to Luka Doncic’s 48.9.

Washington is exercising caution with its new star while sitting at 10-28 after three straight losses, 14th in the Eastern Conference. The Wizards have not reached the postseason since exiting in the first round in 2020-21.
