San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper will miss multiple weeks after an MRI on Monday confirmed a left calf strain, according to team officials and league sources.

The 19-year-old was hurt in the second quarter of Sunday’s 130-118 defeat to the Phoenix Suns while contesting a dunk by Nick Richards. Harper landed awkwardly on the play, grimaced as he reached the bench, and soon headed to the locker room with medical personnel. He did not return and later exited the arena on crutches wearing a walking boot.

Although the Spurs did not announce a recovery timeline, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania that the No. 2 overall pick is expected to be out for several weeks.

Before leaving the game, Harper logged 11 minutes and scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Through his first five NBA appearances, he was averaging 14.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals, ranking fourth on the roster in scoring.

San Antonio is already without veteran point guard De’Aaron Fox, who has been sidelined all season with a hamstring injury sustained during offseason workouts.

“Yeah, I hope the best for him, for sure,” teammate Victor Wembanyama said after Sunday’s loss. “We’ve seen great things from him. It’s actually been hard to believe how good he’s played. But it happens. We have to be able to deal with injuries. But at the same time, we’re going to get some guys back.”

The Spurs visit the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.
