San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle is expected to miss one to two weeks after suffering a hip flexor strain, according to sources who spoke with ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The injury occurred in the first half of Sunday’s game against the Sacramento Kings, and the reigning 2024-25 NBA Rookie of the Year did not return after halftime. Castle later told reporters he felt soreness but was unsure of the exact play on which he was hurt.
Castle, 21, has emerged as one of the league’s standout newcomers, averaging 17.3 points, 7.5 assists and 5.8 rebounds. He and teammate Victor Wembanyama — currently out with his own injury — recorded 20-point triple-doubles in a Nov. 12 loss to the Golden State Warriors, marking the fifth time in NBA history, and the first in Spurs history, that two players on the same team reached that milestone in the same game, according to ESPN research.
In a separate development, the Spurs announced veteran guard Jordan McLaughlin underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed a right hamstring strain. He sustained the injury during an on-court workout at the Victory Capital Performance Center.
