The Indiana Pacers have released guard Mac McClung and will bring in veteran Monte Morris to fill the open roster spot, sources told ESPN on Thursday.
McClung, 26, signed a two-year contract with Indiana last week—his first standard NBA deal after spending the past four seasons on two-way and training-camp agreements. The three-time slam dunk contest champion averaged 6.3 points in 11.3 minutes across three games for the Pacers.
Indiana faces a $164,060 salary-cap charge for waiving McClung, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks. The second season of his contract was non-guaranteed.
Morris, 30, is entering his eighth NBA campaign. He appeared in 45 games for the Phoenix Suns in 2024-25, averaging 5.2 points, 1.6 assists and 1.5 rebounds while shooting 42.6% from the field.
The Pacers turned to Morris after a series of injuries sidelined eight players during Wednesday’s 112-103 loss to the Brooklyn Nets, dropping the team to 1-7. The injured list includes Tyrese Haliburton (torn Achilles), Obi Toppin (stress fracture, foot), T.J. McConnell (hamstring), Bennedict Mathurin (big toe), Andrew Nembhard (shoulder), Kam Jones (back), Johnny Furphy (ankle) and Quenton Jackson (hamstring).
