The New York Knicks have chosen not to raise a banner at Madison Square Garden to mark their NBA Cup victory, according to sources who spoke with ESPN’s Shams Charania on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025.

Head coach Mike Brown had indicated after Tuesday night’s 123-115 win over the San Antonio Spurs that a banner might go up, calling the prospect of seeing one in “the most iconic arena in the league” a major positive. Shortly afterward, team decision-makers opted against the idea, the sources said.

Both previous NBA Cup champions—the Los Angeles Lakers in 2024 and the Milwaukee Bucks in 2023—added banners in their home arenas. New York has not installed a team banner since the club’s 1999 Eastern Conference championship.

Player reaction appeared muted. Forward Karl-Anthony Towns said the Knicks would celebrate “for one night” before resuming their normal routine. Guard Jalen Brunson, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, echoed that sentiment, noting that no parade was planned and that the group would “move on” once it leaves town.

The Knicks travel to Indianapolis to face the Pacers on Thursday.
