New York Knicks guard Landry Shamet will be out of action for at least four weeks while he recovers from a sprained right shoulder, according to sources who spoke with ESPN.
The injury occurred in the first quarter of last Saturday’s matchup against the Orlando Magic when Shamet collided with a hard screen set by center Wendell Carter Jr. The 28-year-old immediately left the game in visible pain and did not return.
Sources said Shamet has already started rehabilitation and will be re-examined after the initial four-week period.
Before the setback, the veteran guard had emerged as one of the NBA’s most accurate long-distance shooters this season, connecting on a career-best 42.4% of his three-point attempts. His shooting surge helped him secure a spot in the starting lineup, and he was in the midst of his most productive five-game stretch of the year, reaching double figures in four straight contests—including a 36-point performance in a 140-132 victory over the Miami Heat. The streak ended when he scored nine points in 23 minutes during last Wednesday’s win over the Dallas Mavericks.
The Knicks continue their road swing Wednesday night against the Charlotte Hornets before returning to Madison Square Garden to host the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday.
