The Milwaukee Bucks expect Giannis Antetokounmpo to miss roughly one to two weeks after tests revealed a low-grade strain in his left groin, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Tuesday.
The two-time MVP left Monday’s loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers late in the second quarter after repeatedly reaching for the injured area. Head coach Doc Rivers characterized the diagnosis as “good news” during the Bucks+ Audio “Courtside with Gale Klappa” podcast later that day.
“I don’t know what grade it is, but I know it’s not a bad one, so that’s good news for us,” Rivers said. “But yet still, probably two weeks he’ll be out. And we’ll see. Hopefully less, but most likely in that area.”
Rivers noted that Antetokounmpo began favoring his groin early in the game and exited with 3:03 remaining in the second period. Without their star, Milwaukee was outscored 59-49 after halftime and dropped consecutive games for the first time this season, falling to 8-7 overall. The Bucks are 1-1 in contests Antetokounmpo has missed this year.
Through 12 games, Antetokounmpo is averaging 32.6 points on 63% shooting, along with 11.3 rebounds and 7.1 assists. His 36.4% usage rate entering Monday ranked second in the league and marked his highest since the 2022-23 campaign.
The Bucks will monitor the forward’s recovery and reassess his status in approximately one week.
