Dallas — Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis is dealing with a minor right groin strain and is likely to be sidelined for several games, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Friday.

The 32-year-old was injured with 8:50 left in the second quarter of the Mavericks’ 126-116 Christmas Day loss to the Golden State Warriors. After pulling up while chasing a hit-ahead pass in transition, Davis limped to the bench and requested a substitution. He was ruled out at halftime with right groin spasms.

Team medical staff will evaluate the eight-time All-Star on a day-to-day basis. Dallas has consistently followed a cautious protocol with injuries this season, particularly regarding Davis.

Since arriving from Los Angeles in February as the centerpiece of the controversial Luka Dončić trade, Davis has battled a series of soft-tissue issues. He was recovering from an abdominal strain at the time of the deal, then missed 18 games with a related adductor strain in his Mavericks debut. Earlier this season, a left calf strain kept him out of 14 games.

The Mavericks are 8-8 when Davis plays and 4-12 without him.
