JACKSON, N.J. — The sister of Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid was shot and killed Saturday morning at an apartment complex in southern New Jersey, and her boyfriend is now facing a murder charge, local prosecutors said Monday.

Officers were dispatched to the Paragon apartment complex in Jackson at about 11 a.m. after callers reported gunfire, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer. Police found 28-year-old Toraya Reid unresponsive near the complex’s exit with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said they saw a man, identified as 29-year-old Shaquille Green of Jackson, running along a nearby road. Green was taken into custody without incident moments later and was charged with murder and two weapons offenses. Billhimer noted that Reid and Green were in “a dating relationship,” but provided no additional details.

Green remained in the Ocean County Jail on Monday. Prosecutors said they did not know whether he had retained legal counsel.

Naz Reid, 25, a New Jersey native entering his seventh NBA season, recently signed a five-year deal with the Timberwolves after earning the league’s 2023-24 Sixth Man of the Year award. A request for comment sent to his representatives was not immediately returned.

Jackson is located roughly 31 miles (50 kilometers) northeast of Philadelphia.
