OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said his family was unharmed after a burglary at his Nichols Hills residence last week while he was playing in a home game.
“Long story short, everybody’s safe, and that’s all that really matters,” the NBA’s reigning MVP told reporters Sunday, Nov. 2, after the Thunder defeated the New Orleans Pelicans.
Police in Nichols Hills, a small city encircled by Oklahoma City, were called to the property around 7:45 p.m. Thursday—the same time the Thunder were hosting the Washington Wizards. Officers said in a statement that the suspects fled before they arrived. No arrests have been made, and investigators do not believe the public faces any immediate threat.
Authorities have not disclosed whether anyone was inside the house during the break-in or if any belongings were taken. Nichols Hills Police Chief Steven Cox did not release additional information over the weekend.
The incident mirrors a string of recent burglaries targeting prominent athletes across the United States, often timed for when players are away for games. Victims in other cases have included NFL stars Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Joe Burrow; NBA guard Luka Dončić; and NHL forward Evgeni Malkin.
