MIAMI — A former Miami Heat security officer pleaded guilty Tuesday to transporting and selling millions of dollars in stolen, game-worn jerseys and other team memorabilia, federal prosecutors said.

Marcos Thomas Perez, 62, entered his plea in U.S. District Court on Aug. 19, 2025. The retired 25-year Miami Police Department veteran worked for the Heat from 2016 to 2021 and for the NBA’s security staff from 2022 to 2025.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida and the FBI’s Miami field office, Perez used his game-day security access at Kaseya Center to enter a locked equipment room holding items earmarked for a future team museum. Investigators said he stole more than 400 jerseys and other collectibles.

Over a three-year span, Perez sold more than 100 of those items online for roughly $1.9 million, shipping them across state lines, often at steep discounts, the agencies said. One transaction involved a Miami Heat jersey worn by LeBron James during the NBA Finals, which Perez sold for about $100,000. That same jersey later fetched $3.7 million at a Sotheby’s auction.

No sentencing date was immediately announced.
