WASHINGTON — Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham exited Tuesday night’s matchup with the Washington Wizards after experiencing back spasms early in the first quarter.
The two-time All-Star appeared to hurt himself while diving for a loose ball shortly after tipoff. He remained on the floor for several minutes but was removed with 6:40 left in the period. The Pistons announced during the second quarter that he would not return.
Before leaving, Cunningham logged six points and two rebounds in 5 minutes, 20 seconds. The 24-year-old is averaging 25.0 points, 10.0 assists and 5.6 rebounds through 61 games this season. Players must appear in at least 65 contests to be eligible for major postseason honors such as MVP and All-NBA teams.
