Sotheby’s sold 71 lots from Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen’s personal collection on Monday night, generating a total of $6,226,072.
The top Pippen-specific piece was a set of six 24-karat gold overlay and sterling silver Larry O’Brien Trophy replicas produced by Tiffany & Co. and presented to the forward by Chicago Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf after each championship. The set realized $640,000.
Pippen’s signed jersey from the famed “Flu Game” — Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals — brought in $486,400, setting a new auction record for Pippen memorabilia.
Bidders from 32 countries participated in the sale. “Scottie Pippen helped raise six championship banners in Chicago — and judging by the response to this collection, collectors were more than ready to raise their paddles,” Sotheby’s head of modern collectibles Brahm Wachter said in a statement.
Highlights from teammates
Pippen also consigned items tied to former teammates:
- Michael Jordan’s game-worn and signed Nike Air Jordan VII sneakers from the 1992 Olympic gold medal game, gifted to Pippen, sold for $640,000.
- Larry Bird’s game-worn and signed “Dream Team” jersey reached $896,000, an auction record for Bird memorabilia.
Additional Pippen artifacts
Other notable sales included Pippen’s own game-worn “Dream Team” jersey from the 1992 gold medal game at $384,000 and his 1998 “Last Dance” NBA Finals jersey, photo-matched to Games 1 and 6, at $448,000.
Wachter said the energetic bidding “underscores the deep respect for Pippen’s legacy” and reflects ongoing demand for 1990s basketball collectibles.
