JOOPITER, the online auction platform founded by 13-time Grammy winner Pharrell Williams, will place five pairs of Michael Jordan’s player-exclusive Air Jordans on the block from November 6 to November 18.
The group includes three autographed pairs and two pairs worn during Chicago Bulls playoff games. All five shoes were originally made for Jordan.
What’s in the sale
• Game-worn Air Jordan IX baseball cleats: Used during Jordan’s 1994 baseball stint and later given to then-Orlando Cubs utility player—and future NFL tight end—Ed Smith.
• Game 1, 1993 NBA Playoffs Air Jordan VIIIs: Worn against the Atlanta Hawks and subsequently gifted to longtime Jordan security guard John Michael Wozniak.
• Signed sample Air Jordan 1s: A prototype pair bearing Jordan’s signature.
• Two sample Air Jordan XIs: One pair was worn during the Bulls’ 72-10 regular season in 1995-96; the other saw action in that year’s postseason run, which ended with Chicago defeating the Seattle SuperSonics four games to two. Jordan captured both NBA MVP and Finals MVP honors that season—his fourth of each award.
Background
JOOPITER gained headlines in June when it sold a signed Michael Jordan rookie card for $2.5 million, a record price for that card at the time.
Quote
“Each of these shoes reflect a chapter in Michael Jordan’s evolution as not only an athlete, but as a global icon whose influence continues to shape culture,” said Caitlin Donovan, JOOPITER’s global head of sale. “The world of sports collecting has become one of the most powerful ways we connect to greatness and preserve moments that define generations.”
Bidding on all five pairs will open November 6 and close November 18.
