The NBA on Jan. 31 suspended Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George for 25 games without pay after determining he violated the league’s drug policy.
During the suspension, George is barred from all team activities, including games, practices and other club functions. The ban takes effect with the 76ers’ next contest and will keep the eight-time All-Star out until he has served the full 25-game term.
The league did not disclose details of the violation or identify the substance involved. The punishment leaves Philadelphia without one of its key veterans for more than a quarter of the regular season, a significant setback as the team pursues playoff positioning.
