ROSHARON, Texas — Patrick Beverley, a 37-year-old former NBA guard, was taken into custody early Friday on a felony assault charge stemming from what authorities described as a “family violence” incident, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrested Beverley at a residence in Rosharon, about 30 miles south of Houston. His bond was set at $40,000, the sheriff’s office said.

Shortly after news of the arrest surfaced, Beverley posted on social media, urging followers not to “believe everything you see on the internet.” He also shared an unsigned statement claiming he had unexpectedly found his underage sister with an 18-year-old man. The statement said Beverley’s reaction was that of a protective brother and disputed the description of subsequent events, adding that the matter will be addressed in court.

Beverley last appeared in the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2024 season. Over a 12-year career, he played for the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers and several other clubs.
