HOUSTON, Dec. 5, 2025 — Kevin Durant joined one of the NBA’s most exclusive clubs Friday night, becoming the eighth player in league history to eclipse 31,000 career points.

The Houston Rockets forward reached the milestone with a 10-foot jumper at the 6:15 mark of the first quarter against the Phoenix Suns. Durant, who entered the game needing four points, opened the night with two free throws before knocking down the mid-range shot on his third attempt.

Durant finished with 28 points in Houston’s 117-98 victory, bringing his career total to 31,024. He remains eighth on the all-time scoring list behind LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki and Wilt Chamberlain.

Two nights earlier, Durant narrowly missed the mark in a 121-95 win over the Sacramento Kings, sitting much of the fourth quarter and ending with 24 points. After that game he joked about coming up short, then reiterated Friday how much these benchmarks still resonate.

“Eight players in the history of the game, that’s insane,” Durant said postgame, adding thanks to coaches and former teammates such as Russell Westbrook, Steven Adams and Jeff Green for their roles in his journey.

If the 15-time All-Star stays healthy, he is on pace to pass Chamberlain (31,419) and Nowitzki (31,560) later this season, with Jordan’s 32,292 points also within sight.
