The NBA has retained the law firm that handled the league’s 2014 investigation into former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling to look into new allegations involving Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard, a league spokesman confirmed on Sept. 5, 2025.
Details of the accusations against the two-time NBA Finals MVP were not disclosed. League officials said only that the firm was selected because of its prior experience conducting high-profile internal probes for the NBA, most notably the Sterling case that resulted in a lifetime ban and forced sale of the Clippers.
The investigation will be conducted independently, according to the NBA, and its findings will be submitted directly to Commissioner Adam Silver. No timetable for completion was given.
The Clippers declined to comment, and Leonard’s representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
