New York — The NBA has issued a $100,000 fine to the Philadelphia 76ers for failing to comply with league injury reporting rules involving star center Joel Embiid, the league announced Wednesday.
The league said Philadelphia did not accurately disclose Embiid’s status before Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks. He was initially listed as “out” but took the court later that night.
According to the NBA, the amount reflects the organization’s prior history of injury-report violations.
Playing for the first time in three weeks after missing nine games with right knee soreness, Embiid logged a season-high 30 minutes in the 76ers’ 142-134 double-overtime loss to Atlanta. He scored 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting and did not appear in the second overtime period.
Philadelphia held Embiid out of Thursday’s matchup with the Washington Wizards for injury management. The club’s next game is scheduled for Thursday against the Golden State Warriors.
